Discovering Fermanville
Nestled on the north-eastern coast of the Cotentin Peninsula, between Cherbourg and Barfleur, Fermanville charms visitors with its unique combination of coastal landscapes and wooded countryside. Located on either side of Cape Lévi, the town is home to several iconic sites that tell the story of its rich past.
Cap Lévi: Fort, lighthouse and harbour
Fermanville alone boasts three treasures: the Napoleonic fort at Cape Lévi, the Cape Lévi lighthouse and its picturesque little harbour.
Rebuilt in 1947 after its destruction in 1944, the lighthouse stands out for its unusual appearance: a 28-metre square tower, visible from afar and listed as a Historic Monument. Unlike its cylindrical neighbour in Gatteville, it catches the eye with its geometric architecture.

The Fermanville viaduct
A symbol of technical ingenuity, the Fermanville Viaduct dominates the Moulins Valley. Standing 32 metres high, 242 metres long and composed of 20 arches, it was inaugurated in 1911 to allow the Cherbourg–Barfleur railway line, nicknamed the ‘Tue-Vâques’ (Cow Killer), to cross the small Poult river.
Its construction was challenging due to unstable ground, but for nearly 40 years it boosted tourism and local trade. Sabotaged during the Second World War, it was rebuilt identically in 1947. Closed in 1950, the railway line has given way to a must-see walking route offering magnificent views of the valley.
An unmissable stop in the Cotentin region
Fermanville charms visitors with its rich and unique heritage: its Napoleonic fort, geometric lighthouse, majestic viaduct and landscapes combining bocage and coastline make it an unmissable stop in the Cotentin. Whether you are a history buff, a lover of nature walks or simply in search of authenticity, this village has something to surprise and delight you.
The Horsol festival
The 'Horsol Festival', which takes place every year between Fermanville, Bretteville-en-Saire and Saint-Pierre-Église, is a major cultural event in the Cotentin region. Over four days, it offers a varied musical programme, ranging from traditional Norman music to more modern genres such as rock, pop, electro and jazz. In addition to concerts, the festival offers street performances and entertainment for the whole family, creating a festive and friendly atmosphere in the villages of the region.
